About Grotte di Stiffe
The Grotte di Stiffe are a series of karst caves near San Demetrio ne' Vestini (Rocca Calascio province) through which the Stiffe river flows underground, creating a dramatic spectacle of cascades, waterfalls and crystal-clear pools. The highlight is an underground waterfall that drops several metres in total darkness, illuminated only by the cave lighting. The temperature inside remains a constant 8°C year-round, making it a refreshing visit in summer. The stalactite formations include rare cave pearls and cave curtains.
